The Nutrilite 90 Day Weight Loss Challenge – Personal Journey

For the next 3 months I will be embarking on a weight loss journey.  Yes, I am committing to yet another plan, except this one is different from all the other diets and eating plans that I have tried.  This is a jump start for weight abandonment based on my genetics.  A genetic test from Inherent Health is included in the kit along with Nutrilite: aloe shots which prepare my body and metabolism; appetite supressant chews and a giant bag of shake mix along with a shaker cup.  Online support with a mobile app includes 125 pages of menus and recipes and 60 pages of exercises.  The next 60 days I will use the weight loss supplements and foods that match my genetic test results.  The only thing I need now is my team of committed individuals who are sick and tired of carrying extra weight and want a healthy solution.l

I’m putting together a team of 4 plus me, the leader.  We are going to meet once per week face to face or on skype to encourage one another and to share stories, challenges and go on field trips.  The cost of the first 30 days is cut in half until June 30 or until the limited number of kits are gone.

So, now the challenge is how do I invite someone to join a weight loss group without  offending them?  I have friends who commiserate all of the time about the extra weight they are carrying and how they want to lose it.  I have already invited them.  Apparently they aren’t ready to get serious about their problem.  There are 3 places left on my team and I’ve decided to just put the word out there.  I  have to have faith that this message will connect with you and that you will join me.

Meanwhile, the journey continues and I will blog about it.

Health Care Rant

I just attended a class taught by my Chiropractor on why Chiropractic is so important to wellness and why we need to be taking care of our spines as often as we take care of our teeth.  I totally agree with him, but then I practice preventive health care.

During the class there were many questions and comments about why isn’t this information widely known, why the traditional medical practitioner doesn’t consider spinal health important when diagnosing and treating disease, why doesn’t insurance pay more and why are the physicians in the pockets of Big Pharma.

The usual culprits were blamed – insurance companies won’t pay, doctors want to get paid by the insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies pay the doctors to use medicines, Medicaid and Medicare are inadequate etc.  All the usual victimization act that our culture  encourages. During the question and answer period no one said,” It’s your fault.  You don’t take responsibility for your own health, you don’t educate yourselves, you don’t live a healthy lifestyle that prevents disease, and you don’t pay for it, so why do you think you have any control over it?”.

When I practiced obstetrical nursing I saw first hand how consumers took control of their own health and transformed medical practice.   In the early 70’s obstetricians were still knocking women out with drugs and delivering the babies with forceps in sterile operating rooms.  I practiced nursing in an area in Colorado that had consumer activists.  They were well-educated and knew what they wanted.  No more drugs, no more forceps, home-like atmosphere and make every effort to bring about a safe vaginal birth vs scheduled c-sections.  They spent their money and their insurance companies’ money with the physicians and hospitals that met their demands.  They also began suing the doctor if the infant developed permanent injuries from the births.  They caused a revolution in the way babies came into the world.  So, don’t tell me that you have to wait until the AMA gives approval or you have to do what 3rd party payers tell you to do.   Give up this victim mentality and take care of yourself.

Physicians, you need to teach your patients about prevention and be open to new ideas.  Alternative medicine, quit looking at your patients as victims of the system and blaming Big Pharma for everything.  Teach your patients prevention and educate them.  Encourage patients to take financial responsibility for their own health instead of depending on insurance or government to pay for it.

Remember consumers, whoever pays has the power.  Set up a high-deductible Health Savings Account, with a Major Medical Policy  and pay the everyday bills yourself.  Become a wise shopper, and you will take better care of your health while at the same time introducing competition back into the medical marketplace.  Take control and tell your medical practitioners what you want them to do because when you are paying they listen and everyone is healthier.

About Juice Fasts

I have used Juice fasts or “Reboots” for weight loss however, one of the benefits of fasting is changing the bad eating habits that I have developed and becoming acquainted with food allergies.  For example, I usually fast with freshly made juices during this time of year because the ingredients are so plentiful to my geographic area.  Also, Autumn lends itself to a new routine.

Somehow I develop an addiction to ice cream during the hot months.  The juice fast helps to break the sweet tooth and when I do revert to eating a sugary dessert I get a migraine headache.  Am I allergic to refined sugar?  I’m not sure but I do feel better when the quantities are severely limited.  Also, Diabetes Type 2 runs in my family so the ice cream habit is definitely not a  healthy one for me.

If you already have a chronic condition check with your doctor before beginning any weight loss or fasting plan.  If approved,  try a juice reboot for 2 or 3 days to begin with, then gradually add healthy foods back into your diet.  Your body will tell you which ones cause an unpleasant reaction so that you can avoid them.

Cannellini Bean Dip

For all of my gluten-free readers here is a dip made with canned Cannelloni beans that is simple and delicious.  Eat it with corn chips or rice crackers or even better fresh veggie sticks like celery, carrots and cucumbers.

Cannelloni Bean Dip

1 15 oz can of Cannelloni Beans, drained

1 cup of cottage cheese

1 handful of fresh basil, we used Tai Basil

Juice from one lemon

Salt and pepper to taste

Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth.  Makes about 2 cups

Back To School Healthy

When we think about going back to school externals like clothing, backpacks and the latest expensive footwear come to mind.  But, how about preparing the internal student?  Vitamins and supplements for brain health, immune support and athletic support are just as important as the right clothing labels and plenty of socks.

If you aren’t sure where to start, here are my recommendations for a healthy school year from Nutrilite.  Just shop our store at http://like.mychoices.biz and type the following subjects in the search bar.

Brainiums, Multi-vitamins, Immune support, and Sports Nutrition.  Information will accompany each supplement including product comparisons so you will be able to make your own decisions on what is right for your student.  You can also ship supplies to college from this site with a free shipping offer.

Send them back to school with the peace of mind that inside and outside are handled.
