Following my new habits for the first 90 days produced measurable results, especially with weight loss. It was an exciting time, the visible changes motivated me to continue with my wellness plan. Then, the second 90 days, not so much. This is the time when my new habits were tested. Life and the deep triggers toward addiction surfaced. The question on my mind was, “will I be able to do this long term even if the results are slow?”
I realized that longterm change is harder when there are challenges to my new routines. Family gatherings, birthdays, eating out, emotional upheaval all happened in July. Also, a set point in my weight loss continued for the whole month. My usual go to for handling challenges is sugar but that is off the table now. Like I said earlier, this was a testing month. Do I have the right habits in place to make healthy choices no matter the circumstances?
The answer is yes and keep going no matter what. August has been a breakthrough month. Less weight and making healthy choices even when traveling. I’ve eaten a sugary dessert 4 times and actually left one dessert uneaten because it wasn’t worth the calories. I no longer have to think about my new habits but I do have to keep logging my food choices. There is still an urge to return to former unhealthy ways when I’m tired or discouraged. So on to September and the next 90 days. I will keep you posted and if you are stuck in your journey toward optimal health trust your new habits and don’t give up.
Having a healthy, robust immune system is a great way to fight off any disease including viruses. The mechanical practices of washing hands, getting immediate help when symptoms appear and staying away from those who are sick are important recommendations. There are also ways you can improve your body’s ability to fight back.
Since I work with the Nutrilite Corporation I will include the immunity boosters that they provide. There are Foundational Supplements that give the cells of your body what they need to produce overall wellness. Then there are specific Immune Boosters.
The Perfect Pack is an everyday foundational combination which includes:
- Nutrilite™ Double X™ Vitamin/Mineral/Phytonutrient Supplement, now with PhytoProtect™ blend. The ultimate multivitamin. 22 vitamins and minerals and 22 plant concentrates.
- Nutrilite™ Concentrated Fruits and Vegetables. Phytonutrients equal to 10+ servings of fruits and vegetables.
- Nutrilite™ Balanced Health Omega. Supports brain and eye health.*
- This supplement will provide your cells what they need to operate efficiently.
Then there are supplements that are specific Immunity Boosters:
Nutrilite Balance Within Probiotic, a once-a-day probiotic supplement featuring an exclusive blend of five strains supporting immunity and healthy digestion†. It supports and maintains a healthy balance of good bacteria in your gut with daily use.†
- Contains an exclusive blend of 6.3 billion CFU (Colony Forming Units) of clinically tested, beneficial bacteria from 5 probiotic strains.
- Arrive Alive Technology: naturally strong strains resist the harsh conditions of the stomach to arrive in the gut alive.
- Stick to the Gut Technology: natural ability to adhere to the gut, helping to promote a balance of good bacteria with daily use.
Also, The Immunity Health Twist Tubes To Go provide vitamin C and B vitamins in a liquid form that can be added to a 16oz bottle of water. I recommend oxygenated water like the Perfect Water brand. The flavor is Strawberry Kiwi and my grandchildren love it. We drink one bottle per day.
Finally, the Immune Health Pack which includes Echinacea and Time-release vitamin C is useful when symptoms of a cold or flu first appear. Take it as directed for the next two weeks or until symptoms are gone. My experience with Echinacea is that it shortens the duration of a cold and decreases the severity. In other words I’m sick for three days instead of seven and the symptoms stay out of my chest.
I know this sounds like an infomercial; however, Nutrilite produces supplements using pharmaceutical standards and grows the whole food plant sources on their own organically certified farms, controlling the process from seed to supplement. So that’s why I recommend them.
Nutrilite also has supplements for children, Vitamin C, Daily Vitamins, Probiotics and a Fruits and Vegetable tablets to support their health and immune systems as well.
The disclaimer for all of these products is that they do not treat, cure or prevent disease. They support the health and wellbeing of your body at the cellular level.
Just so you know, I’ve been in an earthquake, moved my youngest to college and am now watching a hurricane outside my window. Quite the eventful week and vegan eating has taken a backseat.
Just so you know, over the last 6 days I’ve eaten a taco with beef, a chicken breast, milk duds and iced tea with caffeine. The taste of the beef was very strong and gamey, the chicken breast was rather bland, the milk duds and ice tea gave me migraine headaches complete with a visual aura.
Just so you know, I’m not a perfect, always eat the best choice vegan. However, the goal is when I fall off the healthy eating wagon, I get back on as soon as possible. I am committed to the 90 Day Vegan Adventure and will be posting daily new recipes, challenges and victories along the way.
Ever since the juice fast I feel like I’m on the outside of the American food experience looking in, realizing how very unhealthy the typical US diet is and how oblivious everyone is to what they are putting into their bodies and the effect it has on wellness.
I also feel like someone who has quit smoking and is on a crusade to reform everyone they know who smokes. So, I promise to record my own experiences and not to get up on the soap box preaching reform to all of you who don’t give a darn. But I just have to say one thing. It is difficult to order an entrée in an American restaurant that is not meat-based and slathered in cheese.
A word for anyone who wants to transform their eating habits, keep the junk food out of the house! I wanted Potato Chips with my veggie burger this evening but there weren’t any in the house so I had steamed green beans and rice instead. If chips had been here I would have eaten more than I really wanted and felt the grease at the back of my throat and the unnatural thirst from too much salt. Now I feel satisfied and glad that the junk is out of the house!
